Philosophy

Fitness is a lifestyle. It is not a fad. It is not a diet. It is a way of thinking and acting. If you believe that after 8 weeks of following one of my online fitness training programs or in-person training programs that you will somehow reverse years of a sedentary lifestyle, or lose 40 pounds, or bench press 200 pounds when you are presently unable to lift 30 pounds, you should look for another personal trainer. Seriously. I am a realist. As your physical fitness coach or your online personal trainer, I will push, encourage, challenge, and ask you to work hard, but I won’t make a promise that sets you up to fail. That wouldn’t be fair to you or to me.

Motivation is different for each person. For some, it is to improve their overall health, others it is to lose 15 pounds or 5% bodyfat, for another group it is to wear a skimpy bathing suit and not be embarrassed, to “wow” your ex- at your class reunion, or to return to your pre-pregnancy weight and body. Whatever your goal is, for me to be an effective fitness coach, you must be honest with yourself and with me.  I won’t judge it but I will question whether it is realistic. We need to agree on your goals.

Don’t expect perfection. People aren’t robots or machines so it is inevitable that there will be some days when we are stronger, faster, and more explosive than others. This is okay – just use it to help push you to work harder the next day. Similarly, if someone else lifts more weight than you, runs faster than you, or can perform more pull ups or push ups than you, it doesn’t matter. You are only competing against yourself.
